I am currently using 24 inch Dell 2408WFP with my Xbox360, PS3 and PC rig.
The picture and gameplay look absolutely gorgeous. It can go up to 1900×1200 resolution. Plus, it has 2 DVI-I ports, HDMI, VGA and component connections. This allows me to hook up multiple systems to the monitor at the same time. So if I am playing a PC game and then feel like switching to Xbox, all I have to do is hit a button on the LCD.
You would want to chose a monitor with the quickest refresh rate (so that the picture changes quickly)
Also, for gaming, i suppose it is kind of personal preference, but i wouldn’t want a monitor that was 2 big so that i had to move my head to see the other side of screen properly! I would go for 17" – 21"
As for specific models, im not so sure about but samsung is a good brand

Many people would recommend the 2ms rated (glossy version) LG monitors for gaming, like the L227WTG-PF (which is currently $259 at Best Buy).
