What is the best laptop computer on the market for around $1,000 – w/ SD card reader and dvd/cd writer/reader?

A built in camera would be nice as well as a large memory for music and videos.

I personally would recommend you look into either a Toshiba or Gateway for a laptop.
I have one of each and I have been very satisfied.
Gateway I hear has been bought out by ACER, but their customer service is rated high.

I have Vista Os Home Premium in the Gateway and really like also.
    Gateway

I think HP/Compaq’s days are limited. Customer service is not rated high.

It’s all a matter of your own personal Preferences.

The Dell Inspiron 1420 is a fairly attractive deal. The 999$ model includes 160 Gb HD, speedy core2duo processor and a DVD burner as well as the card reader.
