What is the best laptop computer I can buy for about $1500?

Been looking at the Macbook 2.4ghz, 2GB DDR3, with 250GB hard drive. Is this a good deal for the money or is there something out there that is bigger? I use my computer for gaming, net surfing and chatting, and school work.

You can get a Windows PC with 4 GB or RAM, a larger hard drive, and better video card for around 1500 or less

If you are planning to be playing the latest games, then the Macbook will not be for you. You might want to consider a Gateway laptop, since they are cheap for its good hardware.

You might also what to browse these sites if you’re planning to order a laptop online:

    http://www.newegg.com/ and http://www.tigerdirect.com/

    Hope this helped! :)

Good deal on the Mac. And I know that others will say that mac is not good for games, but you can use Bootcamp or Parallels Desktop to run all of the software in existence for Windows. Look them up.

First of all don’t get a Dell XPS or Alienware they are just as bad as Apple for giving "bang for your buck" if not worse.

Macbook and "best deal for your money" are two things that seldom go hand in hand. Lets see the Macbook’s specs for $1600 you get.

    P8600
    2GB DDR3 1066Mhz
    13." inch 1280×800 resolution screen
    9400M G (Integrated graphics)
    250 GB 5,400 RPM HDD

In summary not a bad setup of specs but the integrated 9400M kills it for me, integrated graphics are definitely not the way if you want to game.

Same price Gateway P-7801u you get
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101166
    P8400 2.26Ghz
    4GB DDR3 1066Mhz
    320GB 7,200 RPM HDD
    17.0" 1920 x 1200 (big plus for me)
    9800M GTS (dedicated card)

So for .14 Mhz slower processor, you get a much larger and higher resolution screen, a bigger and faster hard drive, more ram, and a much much better graphics card.

I would recommend you to check out ProCompare.com (http://procompare.com/top/notebooks). They have a recommendation engine that ranks laptops and other tech products based on ratings and reviews from a community of trusted IT professionals. They also have a cool personalization slider that lets you personalize the results based on the criteria that are most important to YOU.
