Is it possible to connect via Remote Desktop from a Vista Comp to an XP Professional?
My work computer is operating with Windows XP (business) and am purchasing a laptop so I can work while away from the office. All the new laptops are Windows Vista. Will this work or does it have to be Vista to Vista? My office comp is upgradable to vista if I have to, but I would rather not right now.
I know that with my Home comp (xp home edition) I can only connect to my office (XP Business), not vice versa.
Please help, I am going on vaca in two weeks and need to be up and running by then.
What is a xeon chip made by Microsoft?
I have a Dell Precision desktop that’s meant to be a business computer but use it for personal computing.
It has something called a xeon chip.
What is it?
Also, I run Windows XP 32Bit and have 4GB RAM but only about 3GB recognized.
But, there are slots for up to 32GB of RAM in the RAM slots.
Why have such capacity when the system only recognizes about 3GB?
Was it so I can upgrade?
Any reason to upgrade my desktop computer?
I have Dell Precision Business computer that I use for personal use at home that has Windows XP, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, and runs on something called the Xeon Chip set.
I have a fast fiber-optic connection and my computer is pretty fast too.
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows 7 and 6BG RAM, 500GB hard drive, and dual core processor. It does not seem to run any faster than my Windows XP desktop.
Question I have is do I need to buy a new desktop with Windows 7 and i5 or i7 core?
I have the money but don’t want to waste it.
Will Windows XP system stay secure and updated for awhile?
Question for computer 'Experts'!!!?
My future father-in-law gave me a desktop computer from his shop. He owns a small business for which he makes circuit boards. The computer he gave me was running one of his machines(not exactly sure what it did though). It came with keyboard, mouse and CRT monitor.
The details that i do have:
(1) The computer is about 8yrs old, but in pristine condition. I took the cover off to inspect it and it looks brand new! Also…the cover seems to be heavy duty. It’s thick black sheet metal with braces on the inside and two handles on the outside!
(2) It has 2 Pentium III processors in it with Windows NT. Not sure on speed or memory! A cd player, floppy disc drive, video card and a couple of long skinny ports for which i assume linked to his machines in his shop(Parallel ports?).
Now…my question is; can this desktop computer be used as a home computer? Obviously a few changes would have to be made! First of which would be to change the OS to Windows XP or Vista. I would like to use it for internet(wireless) and hook it up to my Plasma TV as a monitor and watch movies and such! Is this possible?
Also…do they make Blu-ray players that can go inside Desktops?
Serious answers will be appreciated(Best Answer)!
It has two ports for monitors, i know what they look like! The long skinny ones are about 5in long and i’ve never seen them before…that’s why i assumed they were special for his machines!
How do I Connect to remote computer in other country(from UK) via internet?
I have Windows Vista Business. I am located in UK but my family(siblings) is located in Asia. As they are novice in computer, I want to connect their machine remotely and set it up for proper protections against Adware, Spyware and like that. Even in that case i want to transfer some music files from my machine to theirs. How do i do that? They have Windows XP machines. I have tried to use Remote Desktop but it is asking DNS name and more. What should I provide to successfully connect their machine and transfer files? Any good software help to do this? Is it free?
Thanks.
Best laptop computer with XP, not Vista?
What would be a good laptop to buy that has Windows XP installed? I don’t want Vista due to compatibility issues. I’m looking for one with 2-4 megs of memory, any size hard drive and a big display. I’m not worried about a compact laptop because it won’t leave the building, it will just move from room to room. Looking for a full-powered machine with DVD drive, not a netbook-type.

Dog peed on computer?
I’ve been battling a virus since December. I’ve had my desktop computer sitting out as I’ve been working on it… switching all the cables from the infected computer to a backup computer trying to get answers on how to fight the virus. I thought I was ahead. I came in yesterday, my door had been left open, and we have two male dogs who like to mark their territory on new items. I smelled a strong odor of urine but never in my wildest dreams would think they peed on my computer. It was sitting sideways and I can see where they did their business at. The computer will turn on, but when the Windows XP screen comes up it gives me the black screen that says something along the lines of… there was a problem that occurred, start windows normally, safe mode, etc. I tried all of the above and it just restarts itself back to the same screen. Best advice???
How do you set up a simple VPN to access your computer from remote locations?
I run a small business and have all of my files saved on my desktop computer. Sometimes it is handy to access the desktop computer from other locations (i.e., if i’m on vacation, etc.). Right now, I use gotomypc.com, but is VPN easy enuf to set up, etc. so I don’t have to pay the 0/yr for gotomypc.com?? Thanks!

What is the best type of desktop computer?
I’m buying a new one and I need advice. My last one’s hard disk broke (it was a Windows XP). I’m pretty sure I don’t like Windows Vista, but at the same time, I don’t think I want an Apple computer either.
