Starting a small computer business in NY state. sales tax confusion?

HI. There, bear with me this might be confusing.

I’ve been running a "business"on the side since i’ve been out of high school, that being that I build custom desktop computers for people. I usually buy parts out of my own pocket from Newegg.com (lets say 0) then build it, deliver it, and install in the person’s home charging 0 more for the whole thing. Ergo, the customer pays me a total lump some of 0 for their new computer when the job is complete; the money I spent on Newegg gets replenished and 0 goes to me.

But soon I’m going to the department of corporations to incorporate myself and also start accepting credit card payments since I’ve been dealing in cash and checks. So I need to think about sales tax now- heres where it gets confusing.

Newegg.com does not charge sales tax, I dont know why. My question is, If parts from newegg cost 0 and my labor costs 0, then the 0 that the customer pays without knowing exactly how much the parts or labor balance out in that figure needs to have another 8.5% added to go to the state? Or are just the parts taxed, or just the labor since I already bought the parts and am kind of just charging to assemble it?

The other question is; a wholesaler of already built laptops and tablets and stuff (sourcecode.com) I deal with besides newegg does in fact charge sales tax on those computers that I then mark up and resell. What gets taxed? Just my markup, or the entire thing even though that would be taxing it twice? As you can see I’m just out of highschool and I’m trying to be legit here but I’m a bit confused. Thanks for the help; let me know if I need to clarify more.

I have Dell Precision Business computer that I use for personal use at home that has Windows XP, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, and runs on something called the Xeon Chip set.

I have a fast fiber-optic connection and my computer is pretty fast too.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows 7 and 6BG RAM, 500GB hard drive, and dual core processor. It does not seem to run any faster than my Windows XP desktop.

Question I have is do I need to buy a new desktop with Windows 7 and i5 or i7 core?

I have the money but don’t want to waste it.

Will Windows XP system stay secure and updated for awhile?

Whats the best laptop computer/ maker?

i was thinking about saving up money to buy myself a laptop,
but i don’tt want to make a mistake and get a bad one,
i want one that is good for music, videos, storing data, and one thatdoesn’tt break down a lot.
also it needs to be reasonably priced,

also do i need all these certifications to land a good income, i dont mind spending the money to study and take them, but only if i need them, i have and associates degree in business computer info systems, but that can only land me an admin/support job which it hasn’t, so i was looking to expand.

i want the certifications that will land me anywhere from 30,000-40,000 starting off, if possible, do i need all of them, if so what are the best books to use, and do they have hands-on training dvds/cds

computer store breaks my laptop where to file a complaint?

to make a long story very short i took my not even 2 yr old laptop to the shop to get a new jack… they made me pay them 0. when i got it back basically the store said it was broken beyond repair and kinda admitted they were at fault. they only gave me 75 bucks back and refuse to give me the rest of my money and give me a new computer. do you think its worth taking to court? and what are some other places beside the better business that i can file a complaint online.

the guy that owns the store i believe is an asshole i talked to him. he refused to give me my $$ the next day i went back with friends and got only half.. slight prob but i dont think the manager is smart enough to realize..the reciept says that they arent responsible if they break anything.. yet they gave me a warranty for the part. u think i can still sue? yes i learned my mistake and will not go to this kinda store again

Need to buy inexpensive laptop for work?

I have to buy a laptop for work and since I’m the one dishing the money out for it, I don’t wanna pay a bundle. I only need it for basic use, mostly for working on contracts and surfing the web. I’m not going to be doing any music downloading or entertainment of any kind and it doesn’t need to have a specific program.

I would like to buy one under 800 bucks but I don’t want a complete piece of crap either. Just one that will do all the things I mentioned above since I’m only using it for business.

What brand or specific computer would you reccomded? Do you have one? Why is it great? And remember, it has to be a laptop.
I’m contracted labor so I have to buy everything myself.

And no I’m not stingy I just want to spend my money on more important things. I really don’t care about computers especially ones at work. I’d rather spend my money on more important things like my mortgage and kids. That’s all a part of being an adult.

Our family owns a peace of crap computer that gets viruses and runs really slow. We’ve called the geek-squad to come fix it about a thousand times…(not literally a thousand, you trolls). Money is not an issue with me, I just really want the BEST monster of a computer for our house. My brother plays games on it and I have online classes this semester. My father needs to do his online work stuff on it which requires word and all that shiite. I just want something that will never slow down or catch any viruses. I don’t ever want to call for technical help again. Please give me all the details in stupid terms that a dumb-ass like me would understand lol thanks!

Best desktop computer for performance and price?

I am currently using a Dell Inspiron 1505 laptop for for homework, internet, and occasionally World of Warcraft. All three (especially WoW) are insanely slow and im looking for a desktop computer instead of another laptop. I did some searching on the web and thought that the Gateway – Desktop with AMD Athlon™ X2 Dual-Core Processor looked like a good deal for the money. 2.7Ghz, plenty of RAM, hard drive, but im not sure whether theres an underlying problem that would conflict with my three uses on this computer. I would prefer no lag at all on WoW even on the highest video qualities. If you have any suggestions on upgrades for that desktop that i could install or any other desktop, please post. Thanks
