Hi I am looking for a laptop for a nursing student in addition to my business. I do taxes and bookkeeping. I will be using the computer 90% of the time. I need alot of memory and it must be fast. What type of specs should I look for..

Hi. My husband’s whole business (flies, photos, excel and word docs) are on his laptop. He never backs up to CD. We are worried if something happened to his computer, all would be lost. We don’t know what is the best thing to do. Should we get an external hard drive? Does it matter what kind of laptop it is? And how much memory should we get??? Cost is really not an issue, we just want to do the best thing. Ebay listings would help. Thank you!

My future father-in-law gave me a desktop computer from his shop. He owns a small business for which he makes circuit boards. The computer he gave me was running one of his machines(not exactly sure what it did though). It came with keyboard, mouse and CRT monitor.

The details that i do have:
(1) The computer is about 8yrs old, but in pristine condition. I took the cover off to inspect it and it looks brand new! Also…the cover seems to be heavy duty. It’s thick black sheet metal with braces on the inside and two handles on the outside!

(2) It has 2 Pentium III processors in it with Windows NT. Not sure on speed or memory! A cd player, floppy disc drive, video card and a couple of long skinny ports for which i assume linked to his machines in his shop(Parallel ports?).

Now…my question is; can this desktop computer be used as a home computer? Obviously a few changes would have to be made! First of which would be to change the OS to Windows XP or Vista. I would like to use it for internet(wireless) and hook it up to my Plasma TV as a monitor and watch movies and such! Is this possible?

Also…do they make Blu-ray players that can go inside Desktops?

It has two ports for monitors, i know what they look like! The long skinny ones are about 5in long and i’ve never seen them before…that’s why i assumed they were special for his machines!

It doesn’t have to be anything too special, but it has to have a lot of memory to hold music and pictures. at least a 14 inch screen. Enough hard drive to download a few games.

What would be a good laptop to buy that has Windows XP installed? I don’t want Vista due to compatibility issues. I’m looking for one with 2-4 megs of memory, any size hard drive and a big display. I’m not worried about a compact laptop because it won’t leave the building, it will just move from room to room. Looking for a full-powered machine with DVD drive, not a netbook-type.

I am a fiction writer looking to buy a laptop, but my funds are not extreme. Do you know where I can purchase a good quality computer with a lot of memory for a lower cost then say Best Buy?

I am looking into investing in 2 laptop computers for my business, and have never owned a laptop before, can anyone make any reccomendations? I would prefer something with a CD burner but that’s not a necessity. Would just like something with good memory.

Ok so i have a laptop but i would perfer a desktop comp. I dont want to spend and incredible amount of money (of course) but i would like something that isnt slow can hold lots of memory also. I do a lot of photo editing and my laptop is incredibly slow. So any suggestions or tips on what i should look for or ask when i go to the store would be greatly appreciated. Thank you !!

I need a laptop computer to surf the web and you tube and a good battery life, used would be fine. I think i would like a hp or a dell, because i have had good luck with them in the past. but i need to know the basics like how much ram i need and memory and stuff.

I just recieved a laptop to use for business while I am traveling. I am supposed to find out if it is capable of the work I need to do on it. How do I check if my computer has a lot of memory, is fast enough and will be able to open big applications and still perform? And when I check these things, what do the abreviations mean?
