Is it possible to connect via Remote Desktop from a Vista Comp to an XP Professional?
My work computer is operating with Windows XP (business) and am purchasing a laptop so I can work while away from the office. All the new laptops are Windows Vista. Will this work or does it have to be Vista to Vista? My office comp is upgradable to vista if I have to, but I would rather not right now.
I know that with my Home comp (xp home edition) I can only connect to my office (XP Business), not vice versa.
Please help, I am going on vaca in two weeks and need to be up and running by then.
Is HP going out of business? Should I purchase an HP laptop, yes or no?
I am a little confused on what is going on with HP. I am hearing they are "going out of business" or PC business or whatever. Is this true? What exactly will happen to current PCS, laptops and so on? Will this mean in the future, they can’t have parts replaced, or the computer can’t be fixed?
Ive been interested in getting an HP ENVY laptop from HP for a long time. Now I finally have enough money and i am hearing about this.
Should I NOT purchase this laptop ive waited for? I dont want to buy a laptop that will not be able to be fixed, or have parts replaced. Please, fill me in more on this issue. Contradicting news articles just confused me even more.
Starting a small computer business in NY state. sales tax confusion?
HI. There, bear with me this might be confusing.
I’ve been running a "business"on the side since i’ve been out of high school, that being that I build custom desktop computers for people. I usually buy parts out of my own pocket from Newegg.com (lets say 0) then build it, deliver it, and install in the person’s home charging 0 more for the whole thing. Ergo, the customer pays me a total lump some of 0 for their new computer when the job is complete; the money I spent on Newegg gets replenished and 0 goes to me.
But soon I’m going to the department of corporations to incorporate myself and also start accepting credit card payments since I’ve been dealing in cash and checks. So I need to think about sales tax now- heres where it gets confusing.
Newegg.com does not charge sales tax, I dont know why. My question is, If parts from newegg cost 0 and my labor costs 0, then the 0 that the customer pays without knowing exactly how much the parts or labor balance out in that figure needs to have another 8.5% added to go to the state? Or are just the parts taxed, or just the labor since I already bought the parts and am kind of just charging to assemble it?
The other question is; a wholesaler of already built laptops and tablets and stuff (sourcecode.com) I deal with besides newegg does in fact charge sales tax on those computers that I then mark up and resell. What gets taxed? Just my markup, or the entire thing even though that would be taxing it twice? As you can see I’m just out of highschool and I’m trying to be legit here but I’m a bit confused. Thanks for the help; let me know if I need to clarify more.

Best laptop computer for Marine in Iraq?
I want to send my boyfriend in Iraq a laptop for his birthday…I’ve researched a little on what laptop would fair the best in such conditions (Panasonic toughbook) but it cost somewhere near ,300…now while I don’t mind spending money on a laptop that seems just a wee bit outrageous…
I’m wondering (for guys that have been to Iraq, and had normal laptops) how did your laptop do with the hot conditions and the sand? Also what would you recommend as far as brands? I thought I heard Toshiba had a tough laptop but I’m not finding any info on that….help!?!
Also I heard that you shouldn’t write on the customs form that there is a laptop in your package because ppl steal them out of packages over there…is that true? Because that is horrible!!!
Which laptop should I pick for business studies?
I’m looking for a laptop which I can use for my business studies. It should be able to run Excel, PowerPoint (should have the appropriate media ports for a presentation) and Word really well.
So basically I’ll be doing spreadsheets, reports, presentations and watching videos (youtube) on it so the demands aren’t that high but it needs to do it well and it needs to be a computer which will last long, i.e. it shouldn’t break easily and I want to use it for several years. Obviously the cheaper the better but it still needs to fulfil those demands.
Please name specific laptops so I can compare them. Thank you in advance ![]()
Does anyone know how to get BestBuy to speed up their fixing of a computer?
I bought two computers at BestBuy, and took both of them into the Geek Squad to be fixed. I run my business through my laptops, and really need them back fast. BB has taken a month on one of the computers already – does anyone know how I can speed up this process? Am covered under the warranties – any advice is welcome.
