I’m looking into building a high end computer, that will probably end up costing around 2000$ CDN. To do so, I will have to sell the current computer, but I’m not sure what it’s worth, here are the specs:

- Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.0ghz (x2)
- 2 GB of RAM
- 250GB HD
- Radeon 2600XT HD 256MB
- Lightscribe DVD/CD burner and reader
- 13 in 1 media reader
- Windows Vista Business Edition
- Unused PCI slots
- Great all-around desktop computer

price range: up to 700£
Uses: Video editing, media, browsing the web
What I would like the computer to have: intel/AMD Quad Core, at least 4GB ram DDR2 or 3, Pref 512MB-1GB VRAM, 500GB HD
I have had a mac for years, but need a more universal computer (windows) and I have lost touch with PC’s and their prices; hence me asking this question…

Any Suggestions? Can you get a quad core for 700 these days?

i found a desktop on dell under small business that i like. it is 2.2ghz intel core2duo, 2gb ram, 1000gb hdd, ati radeon 2600XT HD graphics and it runs on windows vista home premium.. (no monitor but i alredy have a monitor at home) and it costs £294.00.
q1.is this computer any good?
q2. will any monitor be compatible with it?
q3. what diference will it make with me buying it in the small business section rather than the home section?

I am going to get the hauppauge hd pvr and i want to know what is the best desktop for recording videos.Like whats is the best because i know ALIENWARE is best for gaming. And could you also but like if i should upgrade the proccesor or the RAM on the desktop.

I have a Dell e1405 with a 1.83ghz core2duo processor, 2 gb of 667mhz ram (pc2-5300), and a 200GB 7200 rpm hard drive. the hard drive is a couple months old, the ram less than a year old, and the computer is 16 months old. vista sp1 started to install as an update, then when it restarted it wouldn’t boot. the vista business disc tried to repair several times, then i tried a system restore, nothing worked. finally after reformatting the HD 5 times, and installing the OS 3 times it started, but control panel/welcome center, and a host of other things won’t work, and it’s ungodly slow. what can i do!?!?!? what could be the problem. no noobs please i know a lot about computers and if someone says something dumb i won’t be happy…

I have a small business and my laptop is getting old. The POS software that I use for all of my accounting and database management doesn’t exist anymore. The company went out of business so there is no hope of getting another copy of my software. I back up the data everyday, but the data is useless without the software. How can I transfer the program to another computer hard drive and still have it work? I have tried this several times using the backup function of the program, but when I try to open the program on the new computer there are files missing so it wont run.
If there is a way to copy my HD so that my program will work on another computer PLEASE help me!
I do not have any disks to re-load the program because it was an online downloadable program so there never were any disks.

First things first: 0 or less.
I will mostly use it for music, video capturing and video editing. I will be using it to record from an HD PVR, or Personal Video Recorder, made by Hauppage, so it needs to have a decent processor. However, I don’t need a great video card, because I am not a PC gamer.

I have a Gateway Solo 5300 laptop computer. I want to replace the fan inside (It’s way too noisy), increase the RAM from 128 to 256, swap out the CD ROM for a DVD Rom, and replace the 10 gig. hard drive with something basic…maybe just 20 gig. I intend to take this to one of those local homegrown computer businesses. I’d also like them to transfer all of my programs from the old hard drive to the new….not from the disks, but just a direct transfer hd to hd. How much do you think I’ll have to spend for this?

I’m into hardcore gaming and don’t know much about computers so what would be the best Desktop for gaming under 0 AUD. (Preferably with a full HD LCD monitor). Thanks

I need a laptop for work and, as stated above, business matters. I am quite familiar with specifications for computers but not with laptops.

Preferably:
-no less than 17" screen
-good speed
-at least 250gb, 300+ would be great
-good battery (long-lasting)
-video card to support hd viewing
-price, up to 0-0 is fine
