I’m interested in buying a new desktop with a budget of 1400 dollars (Canadian). I want it to run smoothly and to be able to handle multiple applications at the same time. I don’t really need it for things like gaming, but I work with videos and media in general… programs like sony vegas, fx etc.. So what brand shoud I get? Gateway? HP? Acer?
Dual Core or i3/i5 etc?
I’m not exactly a pro at choosing the right technology, so I really need help

Oh, also I’ve been told to build one from scratch, but I don’t like the risks that come along with the parts not working together etc, just …no.

The first one I bought in 1997 from a mail order vendor was a great machine, but when I wanted to upgrade they had gone out of business. Machines were too good! I searched and found another vendor and had the computer shipped in. That was about 6 years ago and it is still not out of date – I have a faster processor than many sold today! I bought ahead of the curve at a great price. However, I need a new laptop and checking around for both that and my next desk top, most of those custom vendors no longer exist – and when the time comes I really do not want a computer that has as many repair issues as seems to be the case for most consumers that buy pre-made systems.

I’m looking into building a high end computer, that will probably end up costing around 2000$ CDN. To do so, I will have to sell the current computer, but I’m not sure what it’s worth, here are the specs:

- Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.0ghz (x2)
- 2 GB of RAM
- 250GB HD
- Radeon 2600XT HD 256MB
- Lightscribe DVD/CD burner and reader
- 13 in 1 media reader
- Windows Vista Business Edition

Hi I am looking for a laptop for a nursing student in addition to my business. I do taxes and bookkeeping. I will be using the computer 90% of the time. I need alot of memory and it must be fast. What type of specs should I look for..

I am going to college soon and I need a laptop. Was just wondering since I am doing a course on Computer security and digital forensics what would the best, reasonable priced (Cheap) laptop would be recommended.

My work computer is operating with Windows XP (business) and am purchasing a laptop so I can work while away from the office. All the new laptops are Windows Vista. Will this work or does it have to be Vista to Vista? My office comp is upgradable to vista if I have to, but I would rather not right now.

I know that with my Home comp (xp home edition) I can only connect to my office (XP Business), not vice versa.

Please help, I am going on vaca in two weeks and need to be up and running by then.

Hi. My husband’s whole business (flies, photos, excel and word docs) are on his laptop. He never backs up to CD. We are worried if something happened to his computer, all would be lost. We don’t know what is the best thing to do. Should we get an external hard drive? Does it matter what kind of laptop it is? And how much memory should we get??? Cost is really not an issue, we just want to do the best thing. Ebay listings would help. Thank you!
