Hi. I want to buy a Dell laptop computer and I am completely lost. I am NOT a computer expert.?

Looking at their website, it is hard to see what exactly determines the pricing. Why do they constantly differentiate between home and business laptops? What difference does the purpose of the computer make when you can go for different specs anyway? I want something for home use, to use MS office and the internet. I may want to download a few MPGs and some music, watch youtube etc, listen to the radio, burn dvds and cds, but nothing major. I am not a gamer. What would you say are the minimal specs I need for this? Apart from RAM, hard drive space, what other things would be useful to know? Thanks in advance

dell is a bad choice. the only reason many colleges choose dell computers is b/c dell has to make deals with them otherwise NO ONE would buy them. stay away. i know so many ppl who have problems with them

I own a Dell PC and an HP laptop. I have to say that I like my HP much better than the dell. Dell has horrible customer service. Try Best Buy. They will help you make a good decision. (They don’t work on commision).

if u want a dell laptop that’s good for home, make a file on dell with small business. don’t do home office. with small business u can get laptops for really cheap because they think you’re a business and that’s y they discount u :) . lol if ur confused i recommend to get a laptop with windows xp professional not vista and get 140 Gigabytes(GB) or higher. u shud also get a laptop with more than 1 GB memory-very powerful for internet and gaming. i recommend not buying ms office from dell becuz they are very overpricy and i think u shud wait till there are sales at stores like staples and then u shud buy the separate CD of ms office from them. if u want a good laptop ill give u a very good link- i just bought this vostro laptop.

build this laptop (its very good) and make a profile from dell and make say u are small business.

If you aren’t going to run a lot of business software, and store tons of files etc. almost any basic laptop would do. I suggest you look at a website that describes the needs you have in mind. At home I use an Inspiron and at work I use Latitude, which is lighter weight and has more RAM to run more applications.
You could call Dell or visit a computer store and talk to a salesman and tell them what you need, they can help you select the items you want.

Go for a HP. HP talks you though the custom building process. go for a HP Compaq or a Entertanment

I have a Dell Laptop. DON’T BUY ONE. THEY ARE CRAPPY PIECES OF EQUIPMENT.

Dell is a good option……. There are others too that are really good…. Just make sure that you are buying an international brand with a good track record like Dell, HP, Lenovo etc…. Don’t go for HCL….

This is one of the reason as to why I don’t like they, they have the worst web site and makes it harder then heck for anyone to get the hang of it. I would go with an hp, they are ten times better then dell. I should know as I;ve had both.

The best advice I got years ago was to find myself a personal geeky guru that I could trust. You probably already know someone and don’t even know it! Look for the guy or girl who is a programmer, or a gamer first. You might be surprised!
